MEET COLE'LITION

Drummer, vocalist, song writer, producer

Andrae "Smiley" Weems is an accomplished drummer, vocalist, songwriter, and recording artist whose lifelong passion for music has made him an integral part of Cole'lition's signature smooth jazz sound. Raised in a deeply musical family, Smiley's journey began almost as soon as he could walk. With both parents, three brothers, and two sisters actively involved in music, he found his first drum set in his mother's pots and pans at the age of two. By five years old, kitchen countertops became his practice space, and by eight, even his father's encyclopedias and books were part of his ever-growing percussion setup.

Rooted in the traditions of the Pentecostal church, Smiley developed his musicianship through years of worship services, school ensembles, and collegiate performances. His gospel upbringing instilled the discipline, passion, and heartfelt expression that continue to define his playing today. Along the way, he discovered his gift for singing and began writing gospel, jazz, and inspirational music that reflects both his faith and artistic vision.

At just 13 years old, Smiley began performing with professional jazz musicians. Although his age often limited how long he could stay at performances, those early opportunities laid the foundation for a remarkable musical career. Throughout the years, he has shared the stage with renowned gospel artists including the late James Moore, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Crystal Aikin, Fred Hammond, and many others.

Inspired by legendary musicians such as Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Chick Corea, Yellowjackets, Dave Matthews, and Stevie Wonder, Smiley has cultivated a dynamic musical style that blends technical excellence with soulful expression. As the drummer and vocalist for Cole'lition, he brings infectious energy, musical sensitivity, and a deep commitment to excellence, helping drive the band's contemporary smooth jazz sound with passion, precision, and heart.

Whether behind the drum kit, in front of a microphone, or writing new music, Andrae "Smiley" Weems remains dedicated to creating music that inspires, uplifts, and connects people through authenticity, creativity, and faith.
